Former Liverpool captain and manager Graeme Souness thinks Liverpool are at a physical disadvantage when it comes to their attack.

The Reds scored seven goals against Maribor during the week, but face Tottenham on Sunday where the biggest problem for Jurgen Klopp’s side will be keeping them out rather than tucking them away, according to Souness.

He is a big fan of Harry Kane, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season, and believes the 24-year-old is a tough player to intimidate just like another great Premier League striker was.

“He’s the nearest thing we have seen to Alan Shearer and gives Tottenham a presence that Liverpool lack,” he wrote in the Sunday Times.

“When you look at Liverpool’s attackers, they are all wonderful players but a bit similar; there’s nobody who will take someone on in a physical encounter, which is such a big part of our game.

“With Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and so on, they’re all drifting in and out of the forward positions and there’s no obvious focal point or physical presence up there. They’re all like false nines, there but not there, whereas when Liverpool almost won the Premier League in 2014, they had Luis Suarez leading their attack.”
